Who am I?
My name is Midi Shaw. I live on St. Simons Island off the coast of Georgia about an hour south of Savannah and an hour north of Jacksonville, Florida. I am a local REALTOR, but since I have another site for real estate, I am not going to get into that here and since I don’t plan on talking about real estate here, I don’t have to abide by any Real Estate Commission rules regarding posting my Broker’s name and phone number… so there!
I moved here in December of 2000 from New York City where I lived in a shoebox of an apartment in the Upper East Side on 83rd Street and worked in Midtown on 57th Street, in the same building Howard Sterns used to broadcast from (which made our lobby quite interesting depending on who his guests were on any given day…) Having always lived in or around major cities like Washington DC, Atlanta and of course, NYC… coming to live in a small community like St. Simons Island has proved to be a very interesting experience.
But this is a glorious place to live… if you overlook the rampant heat and humidity… the marshes, the Live Oaks draped in Spanish moss, the wildlife… there’s something to be said about having Great Blue Herons hanging out at the pond in front of your house, having an osprey sit in your tree eating a fish freshly caught, finding frogs hanging out stuck to your front door, dodging armadillos, raccoons and deer on the road at night… and of course, cursing at the top of your lungs at the slow tourists who drive around the Island at 5mph gawking at every little thing along the road – oblivious that other people have places to go and not the least bit concerned that they are starting a traffic nightmare.
I’ve always loved writing, hence the degree in English from Rutgers University… but I’ve always been a bit dubious about the whole blog thing. But, being in real estate, I am forced to put myself ‘out there’ all the time – it’s what we have to do, so I began blogging on real estate on my other blog… mostly ‘articles’ on various topics concerning real estate. But, it’s been said that people want to know more about the person than what their take on real estate is… so rather than mix my personal thoughts and ramblings into my business blog, I created this. Now, I’m not a 16 year who is comfortable putting every thought in my head out for the public to potentially read… but I am getting more comfortable with the notion of sharing more and more of my doings, thoughts and of course, the required ramblings…
